Visitor Scientists

Marc Palmada Flores, Visiting PhD student (2023)

Marc is a PhD student at Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona, Spain. He graduated from Universitat de Girona in 2019 with a B.S. in Biology and graduated from Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona in 2020 with a M.S. in Advanced Genetics. Marc is funded by La Caixa InPhINIT retaining scholarship to study genomes of endangered species. He has experience working in the wet lab doing RNA and DNA extractions, PCRs, Sanger sequencing and microsatellite genotyping. Currently, he is a bioinformatician experienced in genome assembly and analyses, working on comparative genomics at different levels using multiple both model species, like humans, or non-model vertebrate species like newts, vipers, vultures and lemurs. His goal is to be able to use genomics for conservation purposes and to learn more about diverse biological systems using genomes and genomic data as the main tools. He is also interested in repetitive elements and evolution.
